Nature of the organisation, its services, products etc: English Heritage is a Non-Departmental public body established as the Government's statutory advisor on the historic environment. The organisation provides advice to local authorities and national government, administer some grant provision and provides education opportunities related to the historic environment. English Heritage also has direct responsibility for the care and management of some 400 heritage sites and monuments. The Library supports the research activities of the organisation and is available as a reference resource to members of the public.

Library Staff:

Special services available to Wilco members: Photocopies; reference and infomation services including bibliographical checking.

Subject fields covered: English archaeology and architecture, maritime archaeology. Smaller sections on photography, heritage policy, collection care and management. English Heritage policy and properties.

Abstracting and Indexing Services:

• Online: Avery index to architectural periodicals British and Irish Archaeological Bibliography

Databases: On-line catalogue available in Library search room.

Periodical holdings lists available: Holdings available on Wilco Union List of Periodicals.

Specialised Services: A free enquiry service includes reference, information services and bibliographic checking.

Equipment and Facilities: The Library is available to the public as a reference facility. It has photocopying facilities and digital photography of some material is permitted.
